Doctrinal Positions

Photographic Facsimiles of the the Codex Alexandrinus, Roger Fenton, 1856
  • Doctrine is generally bad; the less the better.
  • The Pataphysical Society of New York is open to all who wish to investigate the most poetic of the sciences.
  • Membership is compulsory, however attendance at events is voluntary, and registration is free.
  • We expressly and specifically embrace anti-pataphysics (up to and including all other subjects, topics, and disciplines that may animate our membership).
  • We eschew the apostrophe in our name and in our publications. Jarry’s original intent does not apply in English, and the usages proposed by other institutions are arbitrary.
  • We follow the standard American calendar for all dates and times. Holidays, feasts, and observations from Ubu’s almanac are celebrated by exception only.
  • None of the above shall be construed as a prohibition of any kind.
